    DIANA OSORNO & FERNANDO MARTINS

September 24, 2016 in Sunny Isles, Florida

In 2013, Diana Osorno and Fernando Martins met during a work meeting in Bogota. Even though Fernando is from Portugal and Diana is from Colombia, both were in the middle of relocating to Latin America at the time, and crossed paths rather serendipitously. This chance encounter eventually led to a proposal, which took place during dinner on a cruise to the Bahamas. When the waiter brought out Diana’s dessert, she was also surprised with a gorgeous engagement ring.

Wanting to have a destination wedding on the beach, the couple visited the Acqualina Resort in Florida, and knew it’d be the perfect place to get married. After securing the wedding venue and beginning the search for the perfect wedding gown, the rest of the wedding planning process followed, which included sourcing the right photographer. “When we saw Adam’s work, we knew we wanted him to capture one of the most important dates of our lives,” the couple says.

“JUST AS PLANNED, A WEDDING CEREMONY WAS HELD ON THE BEACH”

On the day of the wedding, the bride and groom had a “preview” on the balcony of their honeymoon suite, but didn’t see each other. Instead, they stood back to back and exchanged some last words before walking down the aisle. As a special touch, their dog served as the ring bearer, dressed in a tuxedo and holding the rings on a pillow placed on his back.

Just as planned, a wedding ceremony was held on the beach, featuring a chuppah decorated with crystals and veils. The ceremony was bilingual, as the bride and groom wanted everyone in attendance to feel like they were part of their special day. Fernando made his vows in Spanish, Diana recited hers in Portuguese, and they also had a sand ceremony with a speech to honor their mothers. The following cocktail hour was set up by the main pool at the Acqualina, where guests signed little hearts that were placed on a frame as the newlyweds’ guest book.

For the wedding décor, a vibrant reception space was designed with a color palette of gold, purple, lilac, and pink magenta. Bistro lighting provided a warm ambiance, and hanging glass globes with orchids provided a whimsical touch.

With guests having flown in from around the world – Portugal, France, Colombia, New Jersey, Puerto Rico and Florida – it was important for the newlyweds to spend time individually thanking everyone for making the trip to their destination wedding. Once the celebrations ended, the night concluded with a festive lighting of sparklers.

“After the evening was over,” Diana and Fernando say, “we felt very happy and grateful for not only starting our life as a married couple, but to have shared it with the most special people in our lives – and to have met some very special people along the way, who helped bring our vision to life.”
