INSPIRATION FOR A MODERN DESTINATION WEDDING IN SANTORINI
As one of the world’s most romantic places, Santorini is a dreamy location where the sea, volcanic landscape, and blue sky become an idyllic backdrop for modern destination weddings. Couples who tie the knot in Santorini often refer to it as “paradise on earth,” as it offers such a unique and unforgettable ambiance for celebrating love.
The Greek Isles are famous for their fantastic summer weather, which typically lasts from April through October. For an outdoor wedding, the best time to get married in Santorini is between May and September, as couples and their guests can admire the views and landscape in all their glory.
“Booking your wedding date in high season is the best choice if you want to have the event of your life and combine it with a wonderful summer vacation in Greece,” says Konstantinos C. Deliporanidis, Founder of DW Events in Santorini. “On the other hand, if you want to enjoy a more secluded and traditional side of Greece, we recommend you consider getting married in spring or autumn.”
With so many couples choosing Santorini as their wedding destination, the famed Greek Isle is considered to be the “island of love.” From large-scale weddings to intimate elopements, the island’s landscapes provide the perfect backdrop for weddings and photography sessions.
Konstantinos and his team created some gorgeous inspiration for a modern destination wedding in Santorini, designing a bohemian-chic setting for their couple, Milika and Carlos. The entire design was based on a custom mirror element and luxury rentals, and the event took place at Santorini Gem – an exquisite wedding venue with breathtaking views. To complement this concept, the talented team of vendors wanted to take the historic nature of the venue and combine it with modern aesthetics, creating a unique design.
“We are focused on a timeless and romantic aesthetic, utilizing modern elements,” says the team. “Our aim was to design and execute a unique and elegant event, creating inspiring wedding styles. We were inspired by the natural beauty of the island, incorporating our personal aesthetics to create an inspirational design for a destination wedding in Greece. We thought it would be a perfect opportunity to introduce some new and exciting wedding features that would redefine the meaning of luxury destination weddings.”
The contemporary mirrored gazebo served to add to the enchantment of Santorini Gem’s surroundings, reflecting the water and natural light of the caldera view. Floral arrangements consisted of pampas grass accented with gold, fuchsia, and burgundy, popping gorgeously against the luxurious grounds and architecture of the estate.
Following the ceremony, an al fresco dinner reception was designed with crystal chandeliers and carefully selected table details. The color palette was a soft and warm combination of earthy tones, pairing perfectly with the cliffside caldera setting. For a modern destination wedding in Santorini, the key is to design an event that reflects the couple while also serving to highlight the exquisite beauty of the island.
“Some of the most beautiful views that Santorini offers is that of the imposing caldera,” says Konstantinos. “The vastness emitted from this magnificent scenery perfectly harmonizes the endless devotion of a loving couple! Furthermore, Santorini has one of the most beautiful sunsets around the world. So, there is nothing more romantic for your elopement wedding in Santorini, from the warm light of the setting sun caressing your faces, as you seal your eternal union.”
For those inspired by Milika and Carlos’ incredible photos, Konstantinos offers some advice about planning a destination wedding in Santorini – starting with personalizing the wedding experience as much as possible.
“This can be achieved by choosing a professional wedding planner who will provide a stress-free planning experience with every single detail,” he adds. “At DW Events, our favorite part of the wedding planning process is that it starts with getting to know our couples on a very deep and personal level. We love to create an authentic and custom experience, incorporating their favorite aesthetics while simultaneously delivering seamless execution, cutting-edge design, and personalized planning experience.”
Some other details couples may want to consider, is choosing an outdoor wedding venue so everyone can enjoy the panoramic caldera views. The volcanic beaches of Santorini also make a fantastic setting for pre- or post-wedding parties. Of course, a pre-wedding photo session in the most picturesque spots of Santorini is also highly recommended. Not only does it give couples the opportunity to see the island and enjoy some downtime together; it also gives photographers a chance to flex their creativity and bond with the couple before the big day.
Aside from selecting the perfect Santorini wedding venue and planning out the various events of a couple’s destination wedding experience, Konstantinos maintains that designing the wedding itself is a monumental part of the wedding planning process.
“Wedding design is actually one of the most vital aspects of a wedding event, as it is the expedient to transform the purest feelings of love and devotion to an aesthetic harmony that will perfectly embrace the most important day of your life,” he says. “In other words, wedding design describes the assemblage of all the stylistic elements of a wedding, from the wedding altar decoration to the entire transformation of the venue. Wedding design describes the coordination of all of them in order to create a harmonic outcome that will be perfectly aligned with your wildest dreams and your deepest desires.”
