An Eclectic Wedding Weekend in Marbella, Spain

Lauren Hyssen and Matthew Siegal first met in high school, when they were attending adjacent private schools in Toronto. At the time, Matt was a student at Upper Canada College, an all-boys school, and Lauren was at Bishop Strachan School, an all-girls school. The two teens became best friends from the start, sharing the same sense of humor and love for adventure.

    A European Engagement

Fast forward into their relationship, and the couple found themselves on a trip to Italy that Matt planned. One of his surprises included a boat ride on Lake Como with Lauren’s parents.

“The two teens became best friends from the start, sharing the same sense of humor and love for adventure.”

“In front of a magical waterfall,” Lauren describes, “he proposed, creating a moment we’ll never forget. From there, we traveled to Albania, where Matt met my mom’s side of the family, and we celebrated together.”

When Lauren and Matt began the wedding planning process, they enlisted the help of Lucia Fraga and Caprichia Weddings.

“We chose Lucia as our wedding planner because of her impeccable taste and her incredible kindness,” Lauren explains. “The whole wedding weekend was flawless – Lucia and the team at Caprichia Weddings handled everything to perfection. I couldn’t have imagined a more beautiful or seamlessly coordinated celebration.”

The couple’s wedding vision unfolded with an eclectic wedding weekend in Marbella, Spain, where they celebrated with a series of curated events.

“The entire weekend was beyond words,” says Lauren. “Every detail was more incredible than I could have imagined, and the timing and flow of events were perfect. Each night brought a different vibe: the first evening at Nobu served as a meet-and-greet where the wedding party could get to know each other. The following night, we took things up a notch at the iconic nightclub Momento, which began as a supper club and turned into a full-on club party after midnight.”

For the wedding day, a ceremony and reception were held at the Marbella Club Hotel. The bride wore a Zuhair Murad wedding dress for the ceremony, and chose an Elie Saab number for her second look. Celebrations continued with brunch the next morning, which featured a Moroccan theme. Nobody wanted the party to end.

“The energy and excitement from the guests – and us – was surreal, and there are truly no words to describe how unforgettable it felt,” Lauren adds.

    An Extended Honeymoon

After their wedding weekend in Marbella, the newlyweds jetted off for a week at the Aman in Vietnam. They loved it so much that they decided to stay for an extended honeymoon, which eventually turned into six months of exploring Asia – including three months of living in Japan.

“Matt nearly convinced me to move there,” says Lauren. “We compromised by settling in Marbella, where we bought a house at the Marbella Club Hotel, the very place that holds so many memories from our wedding – now, even more special as our home.”
