Before meeting King Betchel, Yliana Gonzalez had given up on finding her soul mate. Somehow, in her heart, she knew that she was going to fall in love and meet the man of her dreams if she ever wore a red dress – something she had avoided.
Yliana first met King at a healthcare conference in 2006, when they were introduced through a mutual colleague. “When I first met him, I could not understand my giddiness, and thought he was the most handsome and classy man I had ever met,” Yliana reveals. She was also impressed by King’s dinner etiquette and great conversation skills.
“THE EVENING WAS ABSOLUTELY MAGICAL, INTIMATE AND FUN, WITH A COUNTRY SINGER SERENADING US.” YLIANA GONZALEZ
“We started to interact more after three years of getting to know each other, after attending a charity ball for a mutual client,” Yliana continues. “I was traveling, and asked my sister to buy me a gown for the event. To my shock, she bought a beautiful silk red dress! It happened just as I had always imagined – we had the most magical evening and we have been together ever since.”
With hiking being one of their mutual interests, the couple eventually found themselves hiking up Diamond Head in Oahu. King ended up spraining his ankle, but insisted they keep going. At the top of the mountain, with the Hawaiian sun setting in the background, he popped the question.
After a smooth wedding planning process, headed by wedding planner Bliss Productions, the big day arrived. Although September weddings in Southern Orange County can experience murky, foggy weather, it was as if the skies parted for Yliana and King, as they were greeted by clear skies and sunshine – not to mention, a special country star.
“The wedding day started with happiness and calmness until I saw Easton Corbin’s big rig outside the front of the hotel,” says the bride. “I was overwhelmed with a feeling I had never felt before. It was an incredible sense of deep happiness and inner joy that brought me to tears, although I tried to resist.”
Guests joined the bride and groom in celebrating their nuptials, surrounded by an intimate ambiance of love and togetherness. The wedding décor included tableware and glassware that reminded the couple of King’s late mother, and fuchsia roses as a nod to Yliana’s grandmother, who had passed away just two weeks prior. It was an especially personalized celebration, with one of the highlights being a special wardrobe change by the bride.
“King had no idea that I had arranged to wear two wedding dresses – one for the ceremony, and a red dress for our first dance,” Yliana describes. “The evening was absolutely magical, intimate and fun, with a country singer serenading us.”
