Kathryn Selby and Michael Bell met on Hinge – a dating app that pairs mutual friends. The two hit it off immediately, and it wasn’t long before a proposal took place.
It was the day after Christmas, and Kathryn had just arrived in Palm Beach to visit Mike and his family for the holidays. “Typically, after being on a plane all day, I like to
get up and move a little,” Kathryn describes.
“WE WERE SO HAPPY AND EXCITED AND SO IN LOVE."
“I had asked Mike if he wanted to go for a walk with me and, oddly, he said yes. Typically, he would not be one to just go on a walk. We were walking on the beach and it looked like rain, so he said we should turn around. I really wanted to walk a little more, so we did.
When we turned around to head back, all I remember is him holding a ring. I don’t think I said “Yes” – I was just so happy! Shortly after we got engaged, the skies opened up and it rained so hard that we got soaked. But I could not care at all.”
With Kathryn knowing exactly what she wanted for the wedding, and Mike being supportive of all her decisions, the wedding planning process was a breeze. When the big day arrived, a country club inspired nautical wedding unfolded.
“We were so happy and excited and so in love,” the bride reflects. “I wore my late mother's wedding dress for my ceremony and cocktail hour. I also had a piece of my late father’s blue tie sewn into my mom's dress. My wedding band was my mother’s engagement ring, and Mike’s wedding band and watch both belonged to his late father.
Our dog was our flower girl (she is our everything); my dad's brother David walked me down the aisle; and my mom's eldest brother married us. During the reception, my mom's sister gave a toast and asked me to Bongo Board, which is something my mom did at her wedding! It was so fun and special. It was truly one of the best days of our lives.”
For their honeymoon, the newlyweds took a Seabourn cruise through the Mediterranean.
