Michelle Frank and Cyril Matz are a success story of the classic blind date setup, being introduced through Michelle’s best friend’s grandfather. “We had never met each other or knew about one another when we first met,” Michelle explains. “Our first date was at a sushi restaurant at Hyde Beach.
Cyril always says that he knew I was the one from the moment we met. I knew when we met that there was definitely something really special there. Little did we know we would be engaged ten months later!”
“I REMEMBER THINKING, ‘THIS IS THE MOMENT YOU HAVE ALWAYS DREAMED OF.’”
The proposal took place on Fisher Island, where Cyril had decorated the whole apartment with candles and red roses. Since neither Michelle nor Cyril wanted to go through the stress of a lengthy wedding planning process, they agreed to keep their engagement short and get married that winter.
“I am pleased to say the wedding planning was a seamless effort for me,” says Michelle. “I loved every part of planning our wedding, from choosing the venue to the color of the font on my menu. My planner Guerdy was also a reason the process was such a great experience for Cyril and me. She just got us and what we wanted.”
The big day was met with perfect Miami weather, setting the tone for a dream wedding at the St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort. “Walking down the aisle was the most nervous I have ever been,” the bride shares. “Tears were rolling down my face and I remember thinking, ‘This is the moment you have always dreamed of.’”
For the wedding reception, a modern, elegant, and romantic ambiance was created, with a clean décor scheme of white orchids and subtle hints of pink and purple. “We incorporated lots of candles to give a romantic touch,” the bride adds. “I chose a five-tier cake with real flowers cascading all the way to the floor. We had a Don Julio 1942 cart come through to the dance floor every now and again – all the guests loved that! We had the best night of our lives.”
Right after the wedding, the newlyweds took off to St. Barths for a mini-moon at Cheval Blanc. They waited until summer to go on their official honeymoon in Italy, where they visited Capri and stayed at Capri Tiberio Palace. “Capri is the most perfect place for a honeymoon,” Michelle says. “It is the most romantic place I have visited and yet offers so many opportunities for adventure and exploration.
We also visited the Belmond Hotel Caruso in Ravello, Rosewood Castiglion Del Bosco in Tuscany, and the St. Regis in Florence.”
