Nikki Schuster and Keegan O’Brien’s love story began during a high school party in a friend’s basement. After negotiating her curfew, Nikki was able to stay long enough for Keegan to ask for her number and offer her a ride home.
Twelve years later, they were enjoying another summer weekend on Nantucket when Keegan surprised Nikki with a private flight from Nantucket to Martha’s Vineyard. Once they landed, they were met by a car service that took them to a small beach.
"THE CHUPPAH STOOD AGAINST THE BACKDROP OF DOCKS AND BOATS ROCKING BACK AND FORTH IN THE PEACEFUL HARBOR"
Keegan guided Nikki down the beach and to the end of a pier where they had carved their names when they were only 15 and 17-years-old. There, Keegan got down on one knee and said, “Since we were here 12 years ago, the weather has washed away our names. Now I want to start the next chapter of our lives with something more permanent. Will you marry me?” Of course, Nikki happily accepted, and they popped champagne and flew back to Nantucket to celebrate with family.
Most of Keegan’s family lives in South Africa, so a wedding in Nantucket was a natural decision since Nikki has a family home there, making it easy and comfortable for both families. On August 26, 2017, Nikki’s brother John made it all official by marrying Nikki and Keegan at the Great Harbor Yacht Club.
The day was perfect. Billy Evers Creative and his team of vendors created a magical evening that felt natural and beautiful. Guests entered the ceremony and were immediately in awe of the custom abstract, mirrored chuppah with thick rope and vines that wrapped around the structure.
The chuppah stood against the backdrop of docks and boats rocking back and forth in the peaceful harbor. Immediately after breaking the glass, an amazing, 14 piece band, Hudson Project, ignited the crowd, playing “Don’t Stop” by Fleetwood Mac.
Guests followed Hudson Project to a stunning indoor/outdoor cocktail lounge with a custom bar that said, “Love is all you need”. After the customary cannon was fired by the bride and groom, everyone hit the dance floor and never looked back. The dripping vines and floral arrangement above the dance floor made it feel intimate and dreamlike.
