Even though Barbara Erik is from the East Coast and Daniel Can hails from the West Coast, the two managed to build a relationship while Daniel was traveling back and forth for a few years to develop his business. The two shared an interest in NYC and its food scene, and had a blast trying new restaurants every night whenever Daniel flew out to the East Coast.
The day of the proposal started out with a lunch at Le Bernardin and ended with a sincerely intimate proposal at Oheka Castle – all with a ring designed by the groom-to-be himself. An engagement party at the Venetian in New Jersey to celebrate with friends and family on the East Coast followed, culminating in a wedding at the Taglyan Complex in Los Angeles a year later.
“I LOVED DANCING THE NIGHT AWAY IN MY DREAM DRESSES” BARBARA ERIK
Planning a Los Angeles wedding from afar was an arduous task for Barbara, especially since she was only able to take two trips out to LA during the wedding planning process. Impressively, the bride and groom planned the entire wedding themselves, making it even more gratifying to see a year’s worth of hard work come together.
“I was overwhelmed with love and support from my amazing friends and family,” says the bride. “The wedding day itself felt like a dream. Every minute was so special and heartwarming. I loved dancing the night away in my dream dresses with my favorite people and the liveliest Turkish singer. I recently met my wedding designers in person since they flew out to LA on business, and George Azzi said something along the lines of, ‘I didn’t believe a bride trusted us completely on her wedding gown from thousands of miles away.
The risk you took is commendable.’ Azzi & Osta had made my engagement jumpsuit, and I couldn’t think of other designers that I would rather work with. Their work is absolutely incredible, and I just felt a sense of trust with them.
I never saw pictures of my dress when we agreed to the design (it was all based off a sketch that we co-designed) and I never tried my dress on until I received it completely finished. I never had fittings, I never had a clear answer of if the dress would even fit. But in the end, I am so happy I chose them as my wedding dress designer. I could not have imagined a more perfect dress that exemplifies my personal style.”
After the wedding, the newlyweds began their life together with a honeymoon trip around the world. “We started with a night in Dubai on our way to the Maldives,” Barbara describes. “After the Maldives, we headed to the South of France. We traveled all around – Nice, Eze, Monte Carlo, etc. Then we went to Italy: first to Milan (the shopper-in-me’s dream), Positano, Capri, and then finally Rome. Our month-long honeymoon surpassed all dreams. Every spot on our trip took our breath away. On our way back to LA, we took a surprise stop in NJ to surprise my family, which was the perfect ending to our wedding and honeymoon.”
