A Dream Indian Wedding at Taglyan Complex in Los Angeles, California
Kanika Shah and Vikram Singh first met – from afar – in the eighth grade, through a mutual friend whom Kanika grew up with and whom Vikram knew from summer camp. Even though they lived on opposite coasts and hadn’t met in person, the two became pen pals over AOL Instant Messenger. When it came time to set off for college, they also friended each other on Facebook but eventually lost touch.
“Fourteen years later, we reconnected on a dating app while both of us were living in NYC,” Kanika shares.
“WE HOPE THAT ONE DAY SOON, OTHERS WILL GET TO HAVE THE SAME EXPERIENCE WE HAD.”
“While I hadn’t realized it was the same Vikram, he knew right away and sent me a message to remind me. We had our first in-person date right after that message in July 2017. Just as we did back in the day, we spent the whole night talking as if no time had passed.”
The engagement took place on February 15, 2019 at Nobu in Malibu, California. Vikram had arranged for both families to be there to celebrate, and the bride and groom-to-be kicked off the wedding planning process by hiring Blue Lotus Insights to help create their dream Indian wedding at Taglyan Complex.
“Our wedding was beyond what we could have imagined,” says the bride. “It was a jam-packed weekend filled with our family, friends, unbelievable food, dancing, music, and amazing décor. From February 14 to February 16, 2020, we had nonstop events such as the Mehendi, Sangeet, and reception. Given that we come from different Indian religions, we also had two different ceremonies – a Sikh ceremony and a Hindu ceremony.”
Although the newlyweds originally planned to wait a few months before going on their honeymoon, they changed their minds at the last minute and opted for a 10-day honeymoon adventure in Argentina and Patagonia.
“We had the best time exploring Argentina and its wine region (Mendoza), and had an incredible time in Patagonia, where we hiked, canoed, and relaxed,” Kanika describes. “The most memorable part of our honeymoon was definitely Patagonia, where we were fortunate enough to stay in yurts that overlooked the famous Torres del Paine and a gorgeous river. We hope that one day soon, others will get to have the same experience we had.”
