“She’s absolutely beautiful,” Terry Gaddis Jr. thought to himself when he first spotted Meghan Bias. It was the night of the Xavier University annual homecoming, and Meghan was attending a boat party on the Natchez paddle boat with some friends. Terry was originally dropping off one of his cousins, but spontaneously decided to board the boat himself once he saw Meghan on the dock.
“I remember seeing him briefly staring at me out of the corner of my eye and thought he looked a bit underdressed in his jeans and polo shirt, while the rest of the guys were wearing slacks and dress shirts,” Meghan recalls. “Little did I know that I was the reason he decided to get on the boat at the last minute! I was leaving the restroom and before I could turn around, he was right there in front of me, asking me my name. And that’s how it all started.”
"LITTLE DID I KNOW THAT I WAS THE REASON HE DECIDED TO GET ON THE BOAT AT THE LAST MINUTE!"
As time went on, Meghan and Terry became close friends. Over the span of eight years, they continued to grow together and developed a deeper love for each other. “Although Terry is two years younger than I am,” shares Meghan, “the qualities that impressed and attracted me to him were his maturity, work ethic, sense of humor, his big heart, and how he’s full of life.”
When it came time to propose, Terry took Meghan to the Mississippi river front after making up some fantastical story to lure her to the right spot. “We were facing the river along the railing while he was behind me,” Meghan describes. “He then pulled away and I turned to see why, only to find him on his knee, ring in hand, asking me to spend the rest of my life with him.
Of course, I said, ‘Yes!’ Next, he led me to even more surprises, as we once again boarded the Natchez paddle boat, and were greeted by all of our closest family and friends to celebrate the start of our new life together. As we danced to the sound of live jazz under the starry night, it was a dream come true, and the night couldn’t have been more perfect.”
“We chose Bali for our honeymoon, because it had a balance of spiritual, romantic, and adventurous aspects,” Meghan continues. “We went from black sand on one side of the island to white sand on the other. We fed bananas to the playful and aggressive Macaques in the Sacred Monkey Forest in Ubud, rode elephants, rafted in the Ayung river, and bathed in the holy waters of the Tirta Empul Blessing temple.
We saw some of the most incredible nature sights, smelled some of the sweetest flowers, and were touched by some of the most gifted hands. We had the experience of a lifetime.”
