Here is a unique start to a love story: Jin Huh and Kevin Koo first met while skydiving. Jin joined a group of friends to drive down to San Diego, while Kevin was looking to add a skydiving jump to his log since he had his license. Immediately after seeing Jin get out of the car, Kevin knew he wanted to introduce himself.
“There was a spark between us that was undeniable, and I had to see her again,” he says. “As our relationship developed, our connection and chemistry grew so strong that I knew pretty early on this was it for me.”
“AS OUR RELATIONSHIP DEVELOPED AND CHEMISTRY GREW SO STRONG THAT I KNEW PRETTY EARLY ON THIS WAS IT FOR ME.” KEVIN KOO
A year and a half later, Kevin planned a surprise proposal. Cleverly disguised as a date to an art gallery exhibition, he spent time putting together a video highlighting their relationship, which included messages from Jin’s closest friends and Kevin listing off his favorite things about her. His friends even helped to measure Jin’s ring size. Knowing she is not a strong drinker, they served her enough alcohol so Kevin could measure her ring size while she was passed out.
“Jin entered a room full of rose petals and candles leading to the video,” he describes. “As soon as it was done playing, I got down on bended knee.”
During the wedding planning process, the newly engaged pair knew they wanted to host an elegant wedding with a romantic ambiance–a concept fortified by a color palette of subtle ivory tones, cream, grey, and hints of gold. When they saw The London West Hollywood, they loved its breathtaking rooftop views of Los Angeles and knew it would be the perfect wedding venue.
“I visualized having glimmering candlelight reflecting off mirrored tables,” says Jin. “From the décor to the cake, we wanted an understated elegance reflecting my aesthetic style, and our amazing dream team of vendors helped bring it all to life.”
The wedding day was full of happy jitters, excitement, and several sentimental moments before the military-style ceremony and the reading of personal vows even began. Before the first look photos were taken, the groom planned for the photographer to capture a first look between the bride and her father. Having taken saxophone lessons and dedicated time to practicing during their engagement, Jin’s father also surprised the newlyweds by performing “My Girl” on the sax during the reception.
As the sun was setting, candlelight glistened throughout the event space. Speeches by the best man and matron of honor made everyone laugh and cry, and guests were treated to an open bar and a DJ who kept the crowd dancing all night.
“There were so many memorable moments, but the best part was just being surrounded by friends and family, celebrating our marriage, and seeing them really enjoy their time,” says Jin. “We still hear about how much fun they had. Our loved ones sharing in our love and joy is what made our wedding the best day of our lives.”
