A Beautiful, Intimate Wedding at the Fairmont in Austin, Texas. Rita Garcia and Sergio Selvera’s love story began in Houston, Texas when they were both panelists at a citywide high school career day.
“Sergio says it was the static from the carpet, but I felt electricity when I shook his hand for the first time,” Rita shares. “It was special from the moment we met! He proposed to me in Paris, France in front of the Eiffel Tower.”
REUNITING WITH THEIR LOVED ONES ADDED YET ANOTHER LAYER TO AN ALREADY EXCITING DAY.
Like many couples who planned to get married in the Spring of 2020, Rita and Sergio had to cancel their original wedding date five days before departing for a destination wedding in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. At the time, Covid-19 was new with very little information regarding what was to come. Concerned about the safety of their guests and the thought of traveling, the bride and groom made the difficult decision of postponing their wedding until their parents could get vaccinated. On March 19 – almost one year later – they were able to tie the knot with a beautiful, intimate wedding at the Fairmont in Austin, Texas.
“Walkthroughs, food tastings and other preparations were all done virtually,” Rita describes. “Initially, we did not have a wedding planner; but given the amount of work and detail that went into the first wedding, we decided on Dee Lee Designs to help plan and design our wedding. She definitely took the calls, meetings, and most importantly my vision to create the wedding of my dreams!”
Even after having an extra year to prepare for her wedding, the bride wasn’t expecting the wave of emotions she felt when the big day finally arrived. From happy tears to butterflies, she was overwhelmed by the amount of love, joy, and peace that surrounded her.
To make the day even more significant, the bride and groom hadn’t seen their parents, siblings, or extended family in over a year; so reuniting with their loved ones added yet another layer to an already exciting day. Their “fur baby,” Rocky, also stole the show, roaming around in his grey tux and occasionally jumping into photos for some much-deserved time in the spotlight.
“Our wedding couldn’t have been more perfect,” says the bride. “The weather was incredible. It was low humidity, cool temps and just gorgeous for an outdoor ceremony and cocktail hour. We also decided on food that reflected Sergio and I as a couple. During the cocktail hour, we served one of our favorites – a shrimp cocktail shooter – and for dinner our guests chose between filet mignon and Yucatan mole chicken breast. We also wanted to make sure our guests had plenty of sweets to go along with champagne, so everyone had a choice between guava cheesecake or chocolate praline crunch. We also served Tres Leches wedding cake, our favorite!”
For their minimoon, the newlyweds made a quick stop in Santa Fe while traveling back from Texas and are hoping to honeymoon abroad once it’s safe.
