“My husband and I first met each other on the first day of college ten years ago,” Sarin Elmedjian says, recalling when she and Sahak Khachikyan first crossed paths. “I walked into my first class and the only seat available was next to him. As weeks went by we slowly began to exchange a few words during class such as ‘hey’ and ‘see you later.’ One day, our professor assigned us in the same group for a project and the rest was history. Week after week our relationship began to blossom, leading him to ask me out on our first date. All I can remember thinking to myself that night was how much he reminded me of my father. He was kind, funny, caring, and generous – all the traits a woman looks for in a true gentleman. That night when I arrived home, I knew Sahak would be by future husband.”

Eight years later, Sarin invited Sahak on a trip to New York with her family for Easter. Unbeknownst to her, Sahak had already spoken to her family about proposing in New York. Before heading to the Plaza for afternoon tea, Sahak asked her if they could go to Central Park, since it was his first visit to NYC.

“Although I was hesitant because it was cold outside, my sister and mother forced me to go because they were running late anyways,” Sarin describes. “One hour later we arrived at Central Park and began to walk on the bridge. I felt a tap on my shoulder and turned around to see a woman with a camera asking to take pictures of us for her student portfolio. I did not even question her and completely believed she was a student who really just needed some candid photos. After a few shots of both of us, she asked if she can photograph me looking away at the lake. I agreed. At this moment, Sahak reached for the ring and went down on one knee. It was exactly that fairy tale moment I watched in movies when I was a little girl. With complete shock and excitement, I accepted his proposal.”

After a year and a half of planning, the wedding day arrived. Orchestrated by planner Kat Minassi, Sarin and Sahak said “I do” at the church Sarin had been attending since she was a child. It was a special moment, with the Arch Bishop flying in from Armenia to initiate the wedding ceremony. The following reception took place in a banquet hall filled with flowers and décor in a palette of white and gold. Between music from DJ Heartbeat and guest singer, Super Sako, the dancefloor was filled throughout the entire evening.

“One of the most sentimental aspects of my marriage is the fact that my ring was created and designed by my own father,” the bride adds. “He is a jeweler and made sure my ring would be everything and more of what I would want. He spent weeks creating the perfect ring, and every time I look down on my finger I think of him and his amazing talents. It all starts with a ring and mine was the most perfect one.”

The newlyweds spent their honeymoon in Singapore and Thailand, taking two weeks to relax, explore their surroundings, and enjoy their new life together as husband and wife.
