Momoko and Josh met while in a recording studio in Tokyo. Josh was the voice actor and Momoko was the client on that project. “I thought he had a lovely voice,” remembers Momoko. “He thought I was cute and professional.” A year later, a mutual friend introduced them.
Josh popped the question on their one-year anniversary. His proposal took Momoko by complete surprise. While staying at a nice hotel in the city, admiring the night view from their room window, out of nowhere, Josh started to play "Someone like you" by Van Morrison from his iPad. He then popped the question. It turns out Momoko was deep asleep when Josh had measured her finger size with his hands. “So much for that” she remembers and laughs. “The ring size turned out to be way, way off. Thank goodness for resizing!”
THE AMBIANCE WAS ROMANTIC AND INTIMATE.
While in Maui on vacation earlier that year and considering a place to host the wedding, Maui just felt right for them. Plus, Hawaii was a convenient location for each of their families with guests coming from mainland United States and Japan.
The wedding was “emotionally indescribable, but of course in a very good way” remembers Momoko. “Thinking back on the weather, the setting, the people surrounding us, and the man waiting for me at the alter, I guess the only word that comes to mind is 'blessed.'”
The couple wanted a rustic feel for their wedding. The ambiance was romantic and intimate. A custom menu was selected to enhance the guest experience and encourage everyone to socialize and get to know one another. There were many personal touches such as the decision to include lavender as the flower of choice and a horse drawn carriage that escorted the bride and groom to the reception.
When I was planning the wedding,” says Momoko “I was a bundle of nerves rolled up into a ball of stress. I was relieved and of course joyful that it worked out so well. Our family and guests were buzzing for weeks about the great time they had. And of course I was happy that we were officially married.”
A honeymoon in Lanai followed. It was the perfect setting for Momoko and Josh to be alone and enjoy each other's company after all the festivities.
