Ilka Kenyres & Fredrik Brynildsen
August 15, 2014 in Tuscany, Italy
Shortly after his move to Stockholm, Fredrik Brynildsen was introduced to Ilka Kenyres through a mutual friend. It took a while after their first encounter before Ilka agreed to a date, but when they finally met for a casual brunch one Saturday, their conversation lasted until the restaurant started seating people for dinner.
A little over a year later, the couple found themselves living together in London. One day, Ilka came home from work and was surprised to find a bouquet of flowers and a Eurostar train ticket to Paris–but Fredrik was nowhere to be found. A driver picked her up the following morning to take her to the train station and, a few hours later, another driver was waiting for her in Paris. She ended up at a restaurant, where she met Fredrik, and they enjoyed a long champagne lunch.
After a walk around the city, they went back to their hotel to dress for dinner. While Ilka was preoccupied with getting ready, Fredrik snuck out to the rooftop terrace of their hotel room to set the stage for an aperitivo, as well as a “magical moment” together overlooking the Eiffel Tower. Moments later, he was down on one knee, and the rest is history.
Wedding preparations soon began, which would lead to an unforgettable experience for Ilka, Frederik, and their loved ones. “We wanted a wedding setting where we could gather our friends from all corners of the world in a three day celebration of love and friendship,” Ilka shares. It was Fredrik who spotted a wedding his high school friend–wedding photographer Magnus Bogucki–had shot in Tuscany, and it looked like the perfect location for their destination wedding.
Through Magnus, they were introduced to wedding planner Brenda Babcock of Italia Celebrations, who helped pinpoint a stunning wedding venue as well. Set in Tuscany’s rolling hills, the nuptials took place at Il Borro, where all the guests stayed together on the estate. This provided an especially intimate experience and a fantastic opportunity for everyone to get to know one another.
Over the three day period of events, Brenda transformed the estate into a fairytale wedding with her incredible team of suppliers and helpers. Careful thought and attention to detail went into every element of the wedding, including the bridal gown that Ilka personally designed with the help of her maid-of-honor–Frida Ahlvarsson for Ahlvar–and haute couture seamstress Elena Outila.
“The friendly and attentive staff at Il Borro also helped us create the perfect setting,” says the bride. “It was everything we could have hoped for, and so much more.”
