    KARA MILKOVICH & TAL ALTER

January 15, 2018 in Eleuthera, Bahamas

Kara Milkovich and Tal Alter’s love story began when the two were introduced through mutual friends. “One of my best friends spent NYE in NY with Tal’s friends, and on their ride back to DC, they both agreed we would hit it off,” Kara shares. “Little did we know that on that train ride, they decided to set us up on a blind date. Our first date didn’t go as well as they had planned – we didn’t hit it off!

I didn’t understand his very dry sense of humor and thought he was a little uptight; but I did agree to go on another date with him a few days later, and we have been together ever since.”

“WE LOVED THE IDEA OF OUR GUESTS SPENDING A LONG WEEKEND TOGETHER.”

The proposal took place during a trip to Denver, when the couple flew first class and a car was waiting for them upon arrival. In hindsight, Kara realizes the VIP treatment should have been a hint at what was to come. “Upon arriving at the hotel, there was champagne waiting in our room and not long after, he popped the question,” she says.

“We immediately called our families and once that was done, we celebrated just the two of us over dinner. The remainder of the trip was spent seeing our favorite band in concert at Red Rocks, driving to Aspen to hike, and enjoying wining and dining around town. It was perfect!”

When the engaged pair returned to DC, they kicked off the wedding planning process by hiring Christine Godsey as their planner, who Kara through work, as Christine had planned several successful corporate events for her. After much deliberation, they decided to have a destination wedding in Eleuthera, Bahamas, choosing The Cove as their venue.

“We selected The Cove for its outdoor, natural beauty,” Kara explains. “We wanted a small, intimate wedding with our closest family and friends. We wanted a relaxed atmosphere, genuine interaction, warmth and celebration. We loved the idea of our guests spending a long weekend together.”

Kara and Tal arrived at the resort a few days early and began the festivities with some casual welcome drinks at The Pointe Bar, located on a cliff above the water. The next evening, they hosted a welcome dinner for guests on the beach, which included a bonfire and a local band playing reggae music.

“The wedding day was perfect,” the bride reflects. “Our bridal party was small and consisted of our siblings. We were married by one of our friends who knew us from the moment we met. The date we chose for our wedding, January 15th, marked exactly five years to the day we met. We had special touches everywhere. I love lavender, so while the overall look was white, we placed lavender on our chuppah and on each guest’s place setting. To go with our beach themed wedding, we used mini bottles with personalized messages as our escort cards. We also had driftwood place cards.”

After the celebration ended, the newlyweds extended their stay at The Cove and spent an additional week in the Bahamas to relax and decompress.
