Anita Sturnham & Robert Lambert
August 22, 2015 in Lake Como, Italy
It was 2013 when Robert Lambert and Anita Sturnham met at a London tennis club. Rob was immediately struck by Anita’s beauty, sense of humor, and passion for medicine and skincare – a passion that resulted in the two opening their own business, Nuriss Skincare, just six months later.
Despite Anita’s busy work schedule and a long-anticipated first date, she quickly knew that Rob was going to be the love of her life.
“I loved his humor, his confidence, his charm, his handsome looks, his happy eyes, and welcoming smile,” she describes. “We further bonded over our love for great food and great wine – a match made in heaven.”
Both Anita and Rob also share a mutual love for traveling, regularly hopping on planes and jetting off to beautiful locations. During a trip to Lake Como in 2014, the couple was staying at Villa D’Este and getting ready for dinner when Rob proposed on the balcony.
“My memory of his proposal still makes my heart flutter,” Anita says. “As if by magic, a majestic bolt of lightning struck the lake. It was perfect, like a scene out of a fairy tale movie.”
With Anita being busy with the launch of their business, it was Rob who handled most of the wedding planning process, along with Laura Frappa of Exclusive Italy. Given the language barrier, Laura was of immense help.
“The most fun part of the wedding planning was the tasting at Villa d’Este,” Rob adds. “We ate and drank so much that we cancelled our dinner reservation and slept before going back the next day to try more wines.”
On the day of the wedding, an early evening ceremony was held at Villa del Balbianello, overlooking Lake Como – a picturesque backdrop, enhanced with the music of a live string quartet. Villa del Balbianello had been chosen as the ceremony location the day after the couple’s engagement took place, as they fell in love with the stunning venue.
The groom, his parents, and the ushers arrived from Villa d’Este via a private boat while the bride and wedding party followed shortly after. As the bride made her way down the aisle, an opera singer sang “Ave Maria,” which was a special surprise from Rob.
The wedding décor was inspired by the bride’s love of white roses, which was complemented by an elegant design in keeping with the venue’s natural charm and beauty. Subtle lighting changes altered the ambiance of the reception hall at Villa d’Este, where the newlyweds and their guests celebrated before moving on to the hotel’s nightclub and dancing until the early hours of the morning.
“The whole day went perfectly – particularly the weather, as it had been stormy in the run up to the day,” the couple says. “Our only regret was not having the energy to last the night in the nightclub. We plan to head back for our anniversary to relive it all again.”
