    ANDREA HAMO AND ALBERTO COLOMER

May 27, 2016 in San Juan, Puerto Rico

After being introduced through a mutual friend in 2013, Alberto Colomer asked Andrea Hamo out for drinks at a trendy lounge. Not wanting the date to end, they decided to have dinner together, and spent the evening enjoying great conversation and lots of laughter.

Two years of dating later, Alberto decided to pop the question on his birthday. He proposed by stating how it would be “the ultimate birthday gift” to have Andrea as his wife. Taken by surprise, Andrea didn’t even realize Alberto was proposing until she looked down and saw a ring in his hand. Filled with excitement and happiness, she immediately exclaimed, “Yes!”

With the couple’s interests including travel, music and history, they decided to incorporate these themes into the wedding planning process. A wedding in Puerto Rico, where Alberto is from, was soon in the works, and Antiguo Casino de Puerto Rico was chosen as the wedding venue. Not only is it an historic location, but the 100-year-old building’s white marble, massive chandeliers, and charming mosaic windows made for a stunning atmosphere.

When the wedding day arrived, the ambiance was the perfect blend of elegance, luxury, timelessness, romance and fun. The evening ceremony took place outside, where a cool ocean breeze wafted through the palm trees, white and blush pink flowers graced the ceremony space, and a string quartet played. For the cocktail hour, guests mixed and mingled over hors d’oeuvres and sangria, while a jibaro jazz band provided entertainment.

The wedding décor was a combination of ivory, blush pink, and gold accents, which perfectly complemented the venue. Tabletops were strewn with crystal glass pieces, gold candelabras, floating orchids, and finished with white and gold Dior chairs. It was such an impressive display, that one of the bride and groom’s favorite moments was seeing guests enter the reception area and watching their reactions.

A delicious meal was served, which included chicken roulade stuffed with Amarillo mofongo, and salmon with dill, asiago, pesto cream, and balsamic essence. Guests then enjoyed a vanilla fondant wedding cake, followed by a midnight snack of sliders and asopao – a Puerto Rican rice soup.

After dinner, the newlyweds and their guests danced to salsa, merengue, and top hits performed by Extasis Banda, as well as live mixes from DJ Ment. As a surprise, further entertainment was provided by cabezudos (large caricature-like heads), vejigantes (folkloric Puerto Rican characters), and a man on stilts – a complete festival for the eyes. Everyone started singing and dancing, and flags and hats were passed around, creating the energy of a Caribbean carnival.

Not wanting the wedding celebration to end, the party continued with a celebration back at the hotel lobby bar, swimming in the pool, and a wonderful brunch the next morning.
