Ina Lee and Kevin Liang first stumbled upon each other’s profiles on Match.com. Although they were an ideal match, both were too busy with their careers, and ended up cancelling their subscriptions prematurely. Serendipitously, a mutual friend ended up mentioning Ina’s name to Kevin, and he decided he wanted to meet her.

After a couple weeks of exchanging text messages, Hurricane Sandy hit New York City, causing Ina to lose power, electricity, and water for eight days. When she received notice that her local Equinox would be reopening, she updated Kevin about her long-awaited opportunity to have a shower. Kevin took this as an invitation, headed over to the gym, and met Ina when she was sweaty, makeup-less, and greasy-haired – a “first date” that continued with grabbing a bite to eat at Chipotle. It didn’t dawn on either of them that they had previously met online until a few days later, when Ina friended Kevin on Facebook and recognized his “million-watt smile.”

After purchasing a home together on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, the couple was taking a walk along the East River. Stopping by a bench they frequent during their morning runs together, Kevin quietly asked Ina to look in her purse. Within seconds, she found a red box and immediately said “Yes!” without looking at its contents. Smiling, Kevin bent down on one knee, took the ring, and officially popped the question. Just as Ina was about to accept his proposal for the second time, a pigeon flew above her head and dropped a special, pre-wedding gift on her white dress. Shrugging it off as a sign of good luck, the newly-engaged pair continued their day announcing their engagement, with a photo of the pigeon dung and Cartier ring.

Envisioning an all-white wedding with hints of Art Deco opulence, Ina and Kevin fell in Love with NYC’s Park Hyatt Hotel. The hotel’s Onyx Room, with its backlit white-onyx walls, were the perfect canvas for Ina’s dream wedding, and she instantly knew she wanted to hang an eight-foot-wide floral chandelier over the dance floor. Celebrating both the bride and groom’s Korean and Chinese cultures was also a priority, and the rest of the wedding planning process involved meetings with their wedding planner, cake designer Ron Ben-Israel, photographer Michael Falco, and wedding gown designer Alon Livne.

When the big day arrived, the entire celebration was as opulent, detail-oriented, and love-filled as the bride and groom had wanted. By the end of the night, both felt it was surreal for the big affair to be over so quickly. Hoping to extend their wedding day just a bit longer, the newlyweds headed to the hotel bar for post-wedding drinks with their bridal party, where Ina ate chicken fingers and fries to her heart’s content. “I absolutely loved putting together such a beautiful, meaningful day for my closest friends and family,” she says. “To this day, I still look through bridal magazines and peruse various websites, in awe of all the beauty.”
