At last night’s 2019 Grammy Awards, one thing was clear – the stars traded in traditional red carpet gowns for more avant-garde ensembles that have been causing quite the online stir. Unlike normal Hollywood award shows, however, music-related events have notoriously been a forum for artists to express themselves in less conventional ways and experiment with different looks. (Anyone remember Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake wearing matching denim outfits at the American Music Awards circa 2001?) Here are our favorite eye-catching fashion moments of the evening.
Before giving a stellar performance, Lady Gaga went glamorous on the red carpet with a sparkling silver gown.
Always ageless and impossibly cool, Jennifer Lopez showed up in a gorgeous beaded number with a matching wide-brimmed hat.
The internet hasn’t stopped buzzing since Cardi B stepped onto the red carpet wearing a showstopping oyster dress; but don’t let that distract you from the fact that the gown is an archived piece from Thierry Mugler’s Fall 1995 Couture collection. And French couture always gets a “thumbs up” from us.
She may have not been wearing the flashiest dress at the 2019 Grammy Awards, but with 15 Grammys to her name, it’s safe to say Alicia Keys always shines.
Toni Braxton didn’t hold back when she donned a daring, see-through number.
Hennessy Carolina took the puffed sleeve trend to a whole new level, and it was fabulous.
Kylie Jenner went pretty in pink with a gorgeously tailored pantsuit.
Chic and eye-catching, St. Vincent went with a high fashion look for the evening.
With peaked shoulders that played with volume and shape, Janelle Monae definitely had a standout fashion moment.
Love it or leave it, Katy Perry turned heads in a sculpted gown detailed with shine and texture.
Chloe x Halle were a darling duo at the 2019 Grammy Awards, showing how black and white can be anything but basic.
After some public dress drama, Bebe Rexha finally found her dream gown that transformed her into a stunning lady in red.
It was all sequins, feathers, and sheerness for Ashlee Simpson.
There’s really no words for Fatoumata Diawara’s Grammy Awards look other than, “QUEEN!”
Bride-to-be Heidi Klum looked like an angel in couture, wearing a structured white mini dress with oversized ruffling.
Jada Pinkett Smith’s feathered train was everything!
With rich colors and flowing fabric, Saint Heart channeled the beauty of a monarch butterfly.
