After spending two days in Reykjavik during a recent trip to Iceland, the Wedding Style team traveled approximately 45 minutes away to Reykjanesbær so we could enjoy the rest of our stay at Diamond Suites – Iceland’s first 5-star hotel. Conveniently located near Keflavik Airport and the infamous Blue Lagoon, Reykjanesbær is a quiet seaside town that offers travelers an opportunity to explore local haunts and discover their own favorite hot spots away from the crowds. After checking in to the Sapphire Suite, however, we hardly wanted to leave the room. Not only is Diamond Suites an excellent choice for Iceland honeymooners and couples in search of a romantic Nordic getaway, but the 5-star hotel was practically made for those with an eye for design and appreciation for luxury.

Exclusive Top Floor Suites
Diamond Suites first opened on May 17, 2016. As a bespoke collection of exclusive suites located on the top floor of Hotel Keflavik, the suites were launched on the 30th anniversary of the hotel and are currently owned by the same family. Although Diamond Suites are part of the historic Hotel Keflavik, they are a separate entity that were carefully designed to cater to the luxury traveler. Each suite has its own theme and offers a different experience, from the all-white Pearl Suite featuring a Swarovski bed, to the Jon William Suite which combines the Ruby and Sapphire Suites for more space and privacy. Whether it’s a couple checking in together or an entire bachelorette party, this 5-star hotel has individual suites and suite combinations to match every occasion.

The Sapphire Suite
Upon entering the Sapphire Suite, we were greeted by a modern ambiance with a retro flair. The details were incredible, from the plush oversized pillows to the floor made of marble tiles by Versace. Even the bathroom was a designer’s dream, with uniquely luxe fixtures, double sinks, a rain showerhead, and a roomy whirlpool bathtub. Almost everything in the Sapphire Suite was controlled via touch screens in the wall (we could even change the color of the neon lights) and a door opened up onto a massive private terrace with our own outdoor jacuzzi. The common area, just outside the suite, had several seating areas with an old world charm, and a fireplace that makes an ideal spot for enjoying a glass of bubbly.

KEF Restaurant
Located on the ground floor, KEF Restaurant is a cozy corner that boasts comforting, beautifully plated dishes with an Icelandic twist. For honeymooners who prefer a cozy night in, dinner for two at KEF couldn’t be more convenient. There’s also a daily happy hour from 3:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m., plus a late happy hour on Fridays and Saturdays from 10 p.m. until 11:30 p.m. Be sure to try the salted cod croquettes with trout roe and herb salad – they’re scrumptious.

Honeymoon Haven
As Iceland’s premiere 5-star hotel, Diamond Suites consists of so much more than history, design, and character. The world-class, yet unobtrusive service makes it the perfect place for a luxury honeymoon in Iceland. Imagine checking in to the Sapphire Suite and enjoying a bottle of champagne together while soaking in your private hot tub and watching the Northern Lights (it’s a prime location for spotting them). At Diamond Suites, couples can enjoy themselves in secluded luxury, with 24-hour service ready to cater to any request.
